Jim: It’s 81 degrees right now. [0:00] [0:00]
James: What is Christmas time in Florida like? [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: It, It’s different, you know, it’s, um, very festive, lots of lights and people really can do a lot with their lights in the grounds. [0:00] [0:00]
James: Mm‑hmm. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: When I used to live in Minnesota, you had snow on the ground. So all your lights are up high and very dangerous, but here you could see like lawns that are lit up and everything. [0:00] [0:00]
James: Palm trees. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: Oh, yeah, yeah. [0:00] [0:00]
James: Road? The other thing? [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: They wrap the palm trees. Yep. Absolutely. Yeah. [0:00] [0:00]
James: Yeah. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: That’s an amazing thing. [0:00] [0:00]
James: Yeah, that’s, you know, it doesn’t get super cold here in Texas, but I mean, it does. We have…definitely have snaps and weather and what not. Like, last year. [0:00] [0:00] Uh, it’s fun you say that, Jimmy, I see the picture there behind you. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: Yeah. I don’t… [0:00] [0:00]
James: You know, enthusiasm. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: Normally I’d have the Coffee with Jim and James and I replaced it with a, uh, a little Christmas type of decorations. [0:00] [0:00]
James: Because it’s Christmas. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: Yeah. [0:00] [0:00]
James: And I have been filling out Christmas cards, which it’s some‑, something. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: Thank you. [0:00] [0:00]
James: You’re welcome. I am the, um, designated writer, uh for the, for the couple. I… [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: Wait, are we, are we a couple? [0:00] [0:00]
James: I think, you know. Yeah, I don’t know. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: Let’s just leave that alone. [0:00] [0:00]
James: No, but for…so, for over the last ‑‑ um, man, probably, 10, 12 years ‑‑ I’ve sent Christmas cards out to clients, all right? So, back in my old world. So it’ll probably be longer than that, like almost 15 years. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: OK. [0:00] [0:00]
James: So, um, in my old life, uh, my previous life, I would hand write, you know, like Christmas cards to the clients. I didn’t have a lot, you know, we, we started from nothing. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: Yeah. [0:00] [0:00]
James: We literally started with no clients. And, so, over the years, it was always a really nice experience to see how long it took me and how many there were, right? Because you would remember every single one of them in, in an environment like that. [0:00] [0:00] And then it got to where we had 100 clients, you know, and…or 50 clients and then 100 clients, but it was always such a nice thing this time of the year to do it and realize how much you have grown and how the people were still here that you’d sold five years ago and… [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: Yeah. [0:00] [0:00]
James: So, over 10 years, you can imagine how, how that task grew. but it was always something I always wanted to do myself. [0:00] [0:00] So then, fast forward, Energy Worldnet, and we get them here as well. And I remember seeing that number grow and how, how much space it took to fold them all and put them together and how many people would come help us, you know [0:00] [0:00] Almost became like team building for our group, where other groups got the sit‑in and fold and stuff, you know, the Christmas cards and, uh, there was a time we used to sign them all. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: Yeah. [0:00] [0:00]
James: And things like that, right? So now, you know, just trying to make it better, um, trying to make it make a little more sense. And then, this year, doing it for Coffee with Jim and James. [0:00] [0:00] And, and, again, kind of seeing that grow and seeing, uh, again back at, back at home base. I went in there when we were stuffing parts and seeing five, six, seven, eight people in there, just stuff and Christmas cards. How blessed our week. [0:00] [0:00] But it just made me think, Jimmy, about how kind of those traditions around our company ‑‑ I’ll say our company, I’m sure all of us have them ‑‑ but almost it’s Christmas and New Year activities, you know, it started for us at, at the ELT retreat, in November. It kind of kicks off the season of planning, getting excited for, for the next year. [0:00] [0:00] Um, we talked about giving it all away. A lot is part of our kind of goal for this podcast and it kicks off a season of kind of giving it all the way. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: Yeah. No, I, I agree with you and it’s, it’s interesting that some of the little things that really spark that, that feeling inside of you when you know it’s the holiday season, you know. [0:00] [0:00]
James: Yeah. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: And it could be cards, it could be whatever the case may be. I will say, though, what you said about, you know, end of year can be a very stressful time for a lot of folks. [0:00] [0:00] One, you have family that you’re trying to get together with or send presents or send cards or do something. And you also have the business act, you know, side of it where we’re trying to wrap up your end. [0:00] [0:00]
James: Mm‑hmm. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: We’re trying to plan for 2022, we’re doing all the stuff. [0:00] [0:00]
James: Budgets and goals and, yeah. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: Oh, my goodness, you know, it… [0:00] [0:00]
James: True. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: It can get intense and I think it’s, you know, it gets back to what we talked about too, is sharpening the saw. I do‑, I don’t want to, you know, ride that one like a whatever but it, it’s important to balance it at times, you know. [0:00] [0:00] So you can come out of the gates and get things off your plate now, so you can start 2022 with fresh eyes and, and that rejuvenation and that fire, you know, don’t, don’t get bogged down to. [0:00] [0:00] But I have to tell you, for me, you know, I, I really love that…your card, yeah, I mean that’s, that’s something and you are very passionate about it. Like. [0:00] [0:00]
James: Mm‑hmm. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: I…If, if you see the stack, it’s, it’s a…and it’s probably going to grow too. You got it there? [0:00] [0:00]
James: Oh, no, I don’t think I haven’t out here. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: OK, well, for me, I have to be honest with you, sometimes it’s even doing something simple like going to, uh, driving around at night and seeing holiday lights, Christmas lights. [0:00] [0:00]
James: Mm‑hmm. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: You know? [0:00] [0:00]
James: You did that last night, you know? [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: No. [0:00] [0:00]
James: Because if that is… [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: It just gives you that feeling inside where, you know, and I, I don’t want to say like, like that feeling when you were a kid, because I think it’ll last all the way through, but there’s something about that pure and fun feeling that I just enjoy. [0:00] [0:00] And, you know, it’s great for us to get together and to do this. I’m sorry, you’re going to say something. [0:00] [0:00]
James: No, wait. I was saying, we try to make it a special time of year for our company too, because we really lean into kind of the, the spirit of giving and, um, and we see it in all different ways. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: Yeah. [0:00] [0:00]
James: And one I have to tell you, something neat that we did this year ‑‑ that we, we’ve done previously, but this was the first year kind of in the stash, I mean, with as many folks as we have now ‑‑ is we did an internal. [0:00] [0:00] We brought, uh, Santa and, and so that are our, our families could bring the ‑‑ our local families ‑‑ could come through and, uh, bring their kids and see Santa, you know, safe and, and with, you know, more control there. [0:00] [0:00] And then, uh, you got in on it. I know there’s some picture somewhere. I’m sure. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: Yeah. [0:00] [0:00]
James: I’m sure he obviously thrown them up, but, uh, we did a virtual option as well where they could Zoom with Santa and… [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: We had the reindeers call, right? [0:00] [0:00]
James: Yeah, so we had so many folks that were able to pop in and even remotely and get, get some time hat way and so many people took advantage of it. And it was just a way to kind of give back to our employees, um, that we could. [0:00] [0:00] And there’s so many of those little things, you know, this was the time of the year when we do a lot of team building, you know. We, we didn’t get to have a Christmas party this year, but, uh, some of our, our, our groups got…did get to, you know, sync up and do some different things. [0:00] [0:00] We always ring the bell. Salvation Army. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: Yeah [0:00] [0:00]
James: Uh, locally, and we promote our folks, um, you know, wherever they are to do the same thing. And that’s always a great time, to see how many people, you know, put money in that red pot. And we’ve supported that. [0:00] [0:00] And, and we kind of do it. Departmentally we’ll bring different departments in and, and work it when we can. We have a lot, we’re blessed that there a lot of departments. So we’re able to cover a lot of different date’s for them and such an important thing this time of the year. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: It really is and I, I’ll say, uh, we are blessed to work for such a great company, because myself being remote ‑‑ and we have a lot of remote employees, you know, for us to do something here locally, you know ‑‑ it’s great to see everybody, you know, at headquarters doing all that stuff. [0:00] [0:00] But to know that we have the encouragement and support, you know, go out and do something, you know, something that, you know, can make a difference, taking food to a food shelf. I mean, my gosh, they’re, they’re… [0:00] [0:00]
James: Yeah. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: They’re in dire need of, you know, extra food. [0:00] [0:00]
James: Yeah, I, I forgot to mention that, um, you know. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: Yeah. [0:00] [0:00]
James: We, we give turkeys and hams, um, you know. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: Yeah. [0:00] [0:00]
James: To our, to our employees during the Thanksgiving season. And, um, we also match and give the ability to donate that right back and we take a, a large share of those here locally. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: Yeah. [0:00] [0:00]
James: Good folks. Um, so, you know, there’s so many ways to give back. We do a toy drive at the end of the day, a big toy drive. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: Yeah. [0:00] [0:00]
James: We always get a great turnout on that and, you know, bless a lot of, of families here locally. Giving trees. There’s so much going on, it’s neat to see it. [0:00] [0:00] Cau‑, everyone kind of…It’s a great time to kind of pile on and, and feed off each other the energy, just the feeling you get helping folks out this time of the year when we’re so blessed. So blessed, uh, to be here. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: Yeah. Yeah, and, and that’s, that’s part of it too. Is that it’s fun, you know, like in our household, some of us in this household, quote‑unquote, maybe Tammy. [0:00] [0:00] I mean, she just loves to do stuff for other people and I, I learn a lot from her and, you know, and to see the joy on her face to do something that’s going to…she knows that somebody is going to have a, a really great day. [0:00] [0:00]
James: Mm‑hmm. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: Could be, could be… [0:00] [0:00]
James: Yeah. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: Could be right up into the holiday season or it could be right at, at Christmas, you know, whatever, um. I, I…she, you know. [0:00] [0:00] It, it’s fun to see and it’s fun to see the excitement of being able to posit‑, that positively impact other people’s. [0:00] [0:00]
James: Oh, dope. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: And, you know, we are as, you said, it’s beyond what we deserve, brother, because you know… [0:00] [0:00]
James: We, we’ve made our family tradition when we so…So full disclosure, I’ve done a toy drive probably now for 10 years straight at both places I was at. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: Got you. Yep, yep. [0:00] [0:00]
James: And so I organized that when I got to Energy Worldnet and, um, so we’ve got to continue to do that, just with a broader impact. And so, since we started it and my kids and as of, like Liam when he was little, you know, did it. [0:00] [0:00] Jim. Yeah. [0:00] [0:00]
James: And then now, me and Liam both, but what we do is, it’s a tradition in our family to, for that toy drive, as we go. And now Liam picks out, you know, stuff for boys, and Mila picks up stuff for girls. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: Oh, wonderful. Wonderful. [0:00] [0:00]
James: They get to understand, you know, why we’re doing it, where it’s going to go and, and then when we get to go drop it off, I’m going to try to get to let them come and help drop it off to understand how, you know. [0:00] [0:00] How all these little pockets, us doing ir, our company doing it, our employees doing it and other organizations within them…How much of an impact that makes, so they can kind of see it firsthand. So, um, yeah, you know, just feeding that, that next generation of helpers. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: Yeah, you know. [0:00] [0:00]
James: As much as we can. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: That’s, that, that’s the joy of helping our next generation be better than we are, right? [0:00] [0:00]
James: Well, that… [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: That’s what we want for our kids, our new people entering in the workplace. All those things. You know, we want them to be better than we could ever have been and it’s good to cast that. [0:00] [0:00] You know, I will say this, um, we talked a little bit about it and I want to bring up now, you know, the tornadoes that went through, uh, Midcontinent area, the Kentucky’s. [0:00] [0:00]
James: Yeah. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: And such a dea‑, devastating and I know that your, um, have some thought process to help those folks, because again, that’s two weeks before Christmas… [0:00] [0:00]
James: Yeah. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: When, when this happened and um. [0:00] [0:00]
James: Um, yeah. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: Your squad did, um. [0:00] [0:00]
James: Absolutely. I think we all have kind of monitored that pretty closely. Um, got a lot of folks without electricity now, you know, and a time when you need it. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: Yeah. [0:00] [0:00]
James: So, uh, we’re going to, we’re going to see what we can do through our of…our friends and, and colleagues out there. We’re going to work through some of our folks in the region to try to support that. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: Yeah. [0:00] [0:00]
James: And what’s going on there. So our hearts go out to those folks, uh, man. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: Absolutely. [0:00] [0:00]
James: Um, bring it for everybody out there. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: Absolutely. [0:00] [0:00]
James: Jimmy, in the spirit of giving it all away. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: Yes, sir. [0:00] [0:00]
James: You know, we, we were kind of joking about this pre‑show, but we’re going to take some time off. Um, we’ve been blessed to, to record a little bit in the, in, you know, put them in the can if you will so that we can take a little break and our people can take breaks. [0:00] [0:00] Um, but there’s a lot of people behind the scenes that, that really put this show, make these two knuckleheads look good. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: [laughs] [0:00] [0:00]
James: And I know we try to do a good job of, of shouting them out. But, um, this episode’s a little different. We did want to take some time and highlight some of the work that goes on behind the scenes, because honestly, this show wouldn’t be what it is with, without those touches. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: I don’t think so. [0:00] [0:00]
James: Um, I’d just be two weird old man just talking to each other about gas, you know, I mean, so. That sounded… [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: That sounded so bad. Just so you know. [0:00] [0:00]
James: Yeah. [0:00] [[0:00] laughter] [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: Two weird old men talking about gas. [0:00] [0:00]
James: Yeah. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: But you’re also great James. When we started this thing, it was a, a wing in a prayer and it was a shoe‑string operation and then all of a sudden started to grow. And we really realize, you and I, both had a heart‑to‑heart. We’re like, “We can’t sustain this. This is, you know.” [0:00] [0:00] And people…we try to make this fun. We try to make it light‑hearted and it makes it seem all easy peasy, right? You know, not a big deal, hit the record button and go, but I’ll tell you without the folks behind the scenes, we cannot be doing that. [0:00] [0:00] And I think people also got a glimpse of that…those were at like the AGA. [0:00] [0:00]
James: Mm‑hmm. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: And saw like… [0:00] [0:00]
James: No doubt. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: Yeah, you know. Ashley was there, you know. [0:00] [0:00]
James: Yeah. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: That’s one person comes first and foremost. [0:00] [0:00]
James: Yeah and we, we, we do…really it’s about equal time. I, I want to be sure these folks get the credit where credit’s due. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: Yeah. [0:00] [0:00]
James: Because, uh, man, they let…make us look good. [0:00] [[0:00] laughter] [0:00] [0:00]
James: That Zoom filters. No, I’m just kidding. But, you know, one person that really took our idea and shaped it into the way it looks and feels, um, is Amy. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: Oh, oh. Without a doubt. [0:00] [0:00]
James: Amy’s amazing. She’s, uh, she’s probably putting some graphic about herself up right now. So we’re going to let Amy play around with this episode, which is fine with us because she’s awesome. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: Yeah. [0:00] [0:00]
James: But we came to Amy with the idea, you know, and started, uh, she started playing around with, with logos and, and our likenesses and… [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: Yeah. [0:00] [0:00]
James: She kind of crafted our own, you know, our first version which I don’t…Jimmy, you have a coffee cup there behind you. Uh, but really that first one. And then we rebranded in the middle of that. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: Yeah. [0:00] [0:00]
James: So we created a new one. And then, then we rebranded Coffee with Jim and James, right? [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: Oh, yeah, yeah. [0:00] [0:00]
James: Himself. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: Myself. [0:00] [0:00]
James: Oh, yeah, I know. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: Yeah. [0:00] [0:00]
James: And, um, and now we’ve settled in, you know, to where we’re at now and just seeing a consistent brand and feeling and doing it fun. [0:00] [0:00] And, and just letting her have her creativity. She’s really brought the show to life and, and she’s, she’s such an awesome person. I got to spend time with her last week and she just fun to be around. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: Yeah. [0:00] [0:00]
James: And so thankful for Amy. So thankful. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: Can I tell a quick story? [0:00] [0:00]
James: Yeah. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: We went to a team‑building. I don’t think you were there. I think you were tied up. We went to throw the axes, right? [0:00] [0:00]
James: Oh, yeah. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: And we were in Denton and we’re walking around, we had an hour to kill before we got going. [cough] [0:00] [0:00] And so we’re like, window shopping and going in shops all along Denton, so cute, I mean it’s beautiful. [0:00] [0:00]
James: Oh, yeah, yeah. For sure, shot out. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: And so, we’re going in all these stores and what do I do? I talked to a thousand people. I’m introducing myself to workers and everything. [0:00] [0:00]
James: I’m out. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: And we’re walking down the street and finding Amy and she’s so, I mean, her creative mind is like on steroids, but she’s, she’s, um, a subtle person, you know. She’s kind of subtle. [0:00] [0:00]
James: [chuckles] [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: And she finally…I said, “How’s everybody doing today? Everybody having a good time?” She goes, “Well, I’d be doing better. But you talk to way too many people, I think. Just aim it down a little bit.” [0:00] [0:00]
James: Yeah, uh? [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: And I’m like, “Uh?!” She’s like… [0:00] [0:00]
James: There’s suddenly an on or off switch. There’s no middle. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: Yeah, that would be fun. [0:00] [0:00]
James: Amy’s, Amy’s great. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: I feel sick by heart dead, bam, she said that to me. I loved it. [0:00] [0:00]
James: Yeah. So, Amy, thank you for everything you do and, uh, making us look so good. I mean literally. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: Yes, yeah. [0:00] [0:00]
James: Literally. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: Seriously, yep. [0:00] [0:00]
James: Jimmy, another person is behind the scenes that keeps the ship on track. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: Ship. [0:00] [0:00]
James: Ship on track. Yeah. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: Let’s make sure we see them correctly. [0:00] [0:00]
James: Yes, it, it’s…She, she runs this project. It’s her baby. She could…she make sure people are scheduled then…and get the swag boxes and make sure that… [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: Oh. [0:00] [0:00]
James: Everything gets produced and ran. It’s on rails. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: The scheduling. [0:00] [0:00]
James: And even before, the coordination. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: Yep. [0:00] [0:00]
James: Yes, you can imagine what is like having two adult, adult children. [0:00] [[0:00] laughter] [0:00] [0:00]
James: The‑, they have to manage. Kaylee is a rock star in this. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: Yeah. [0:00] [0:00]
James: Has saved our butts this year by keeping us on track. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: [laughs]. [0:00] [0:00]
James: And, and we… [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: Yeah. [0:00] [0:00]
James: You know, we built a structure to hold, um, you know, to sustain this project so that we could continue it, even if we started traveling again and when. And, uh, do our jobs that we have to do also. [chuckle] [0:00] [0:00] Sometimes people think that this is all we do. I think it was Connections for Life, said somebody came up to one time and it’s like, “I thought you just recorded shows.” [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: [laughs] [0:00] [0:00]
James: “I thought that was your job.” That’s not reality. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: And t‑shirts, and t‑shirts! [0:00] [0:00]
James: [laughs]. We get paid for the other job that we have to do when this one’s not happening. But Kaylee keeps that thing on rails and works with the other. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: Oh. [0:00] [0:00]
James: She’s, she coordinates it and, uh, couldn’t be more thankful for her, also. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: Absolutely. [0:00] [0:00]
James: Um, she’s a rock star. Does it sometimes with a baby on her hip, you know. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: Hey, that’s the world we live in right now. [0:00] [0:00]
James: Yeah, yeah, so I… [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: I love it. [0:00] [0:00]
James: She’s, she’s been vital to our success and, and you mentioned her before, Jimmy, um, but Ashley. [0:00] [0:00] Um, Ashley’s someone y’all got to meet actually, uh, with the AGA, uh, event that we had. Um, she’s been on our show a few times with some projects internally. But she keeps us in the limelight, right? [0:00] [0:00] So, whether it be the socials or, or when we’re live out, uh, in the wild, she was a vital part of that. Um, she also internally keeps us on rails too, making sure people, you know, know who we have coming up and promoting what, what we need to internally so people can, can… [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: Yeah. [0:00] [0:00]
James: You know, learn from it as well. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: Yep. [0:00] [0:00]
James: Uh, so she’s been a big vital part to our success to. And seeing it translate live, you know, was like you said, one of the coolest parts and, uh, I think her getting the come out and see it, you know, was good for her heart too. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: It was… [0:00] [0:00]
James: Yeah. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: Two‑way street. I mean as…she went into it with, I mean, I, I took pictures of her. It was like 6:45 in the morning. We were all at the FedEx facility. [0:00] [0:00]
James: I… [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: Isaacson was there, I was there and she was right up at the front. She’s like these need to be in Charlotte, dadada. I mean, she’s really nice. But she’s like… [0:00] [0:00]
James: Sure. [0:00] [0:00]
Jim: Wait a minute. We don’t have this and that, and she just ran with it. I mean, like, we put her into a… [0:00] [0:00]

Jim: And if I can see, you know, it may not have anything to do with Energy Worldnet at this point, but if I give them good advice or can point them in the right direction and it, and it cuts down two weeks that I’m hunting and pecking to two hours or they can, you know… [0:00] [0:00]
