Jim Schauer:  [0:19] Welcome back. James and I have been on the road again throughout the exhibit hall. It’s been very exciting, very tiring. I think we must have walked 14 miles today. [0:00]

James Cross:  [0:29] I haven’t checked my steps. [0:00]

Rita Hansen:  [0:31] 10,500. [0:00]

James:  [0:32] Whoo! [0:00] [0:00]

Jim:  [0:32] we go. And with that, I am going to bring in our guest Rita Hansen. Rita, tell us a little bit about yourself and your company, please. [0:00]

Rita:  [0:41] Yes, absolutely, with pleasure. Thank you for inviting me to be part of this. [0:00] [0:47] Rita Hansen, I am the CEO and co‑founder of a company called Onboard Dynamics, headquartered in Bend, Oregon, originated from the Department of Energy launching us from technology that came from Oregon State University. [0:00]

James:  [1:03] Oh wow. [0:00]

Rita:  [1:03] We’re all about methane emissions reductions, and… [0:00]

Jim:  [1:07] OK, that’s your world, right? [0:00]

Rita:  [1:09] That’s our world. Our world is methane emissions reductions… [0:00]

James:  [1:13] Very popular right now. [0:00]

Rita:  [1:14] It is. Talk about great timing. [0:00]

James:  [1:15] Amen. [0:00]

Rita:  [1:15] We have it. And so we are, this is our first year with the AGA Fall Conference, became members of AGA when we realized that we had this technology that really was wanted by utilities. [0:00]

Jim:  [1:29] Yes. [0:00]

Rita:  [1:31] And what we do is, as you might have seen our device down the hallway… [0:00]

James:  [1:36] Yep. [0:00] [0:00] …

Rita:  [1:36] here is the GoVAC Flex. And what it does is it really allows pipeline operators to capture and recover methane emissions when they’re trying to go in to do pipeline operations. So we capture recovered gas. [0:00]

Jim:  [1:51] Instead of… [0:00]

Rita:  [1:53] When they go in… [0:00]

Jim:  [1:54] Instead of… [0:00]

James:  [1:55] Blow out… [0:00] [0:00] …

Jim:  [1:56] vent into the atmosphere. [0:00]

Rita:  [1:57] It’s gonna vent in… [0:00] [[1:59] crosstalk] [0:00]

Rita:  [2:00] I believe that instead of being LDAR, leak detection and repair, it should be LDEAR, leak detection, evacuate responsibly, and then repair. [0:00]

Jim:  [2:10] That’s a good point. [0:00]

Rita:  [2:10] So I’ve become this, you’ve heard it here first LDEAR… [0:00]

James:  [2:14] Man. [0:00] [0:00] …

Rita:  [2:14] it’s what it needs to be. [0:00]

James:  [2:17] We needed another acronym. [0:00]

Rita:  [2:17] Yeah, we did. [laughs] [0:00]

James:  [2:17] We’re almost out of acronyms. [0:00] [0:00] [

Rita:  [2:20] laughs] [0:00]

James:  [2:20] We’ve got the… [0:00]

Rita:  [2:22] L DEAR. [0:00]

Jim:  [2:23] Leader, it almost spells leader. [0:00]

Rita:  [2:25] OK. [0:00]

James:  [2:25] You’re onto something, Rita. [0:00]

Rita:  [2:27] Anyway, I don’t know. Whatever. [0:00]

Jim:  [2:29] That’s great. [0:00]

Rita:  [2:31] But that’s what we’re doing. We’re super excited because we launched our product in June. We’ve already sold one. [0:00]

James:  [2:40] Wow. [0:00]

Rita:  [2:40] We’re doing field demos and… [0:00]

James:  [2:43] Love it. [0:00] [0:00] …

Rita:  [2:43] projects across the country. And yesterday we had the big press release about our partnership with BP Energy Partners. [0:00]

Jim:  [2:46] Yes, we saw that. I saw it. I got an email on that, actually. [0:00]

Rita:  [2:49] Yeah. [0:00]

Jim:  [2:49] And I was, like, very intrigued knowing that you were here… [0:00]

James:  [2:52] And then by… [0:00] [0:00] …

Jim:  [2:53] getting that email. [0:00] [0:00] …

James:  [2:54] happenstance, we hooked up, and here we are. [0:00]

Rita:  [2:57] You were referred to us by our friends at [inaudible] Gas. [0:00]

James:  [3:02] Ah, we know them well. [0:00]

Rita:  [3:01] And they are now one of our sister portfolio companies. [0:00]

James:  [3:05] Oh. [0:00]

Jim:  [3:06] Ooh. [0:00]

Rita:  [3:09] So, ’cause they were funded by BP Energy Partners as well. So it’s a small world. [0:00]

Jim:  [3:11] Now I see where the dots are connected. [0:00]

Rita:  [3:14] Exactly. [0:00]

Jim:  [3:14] You see that, James? [0:00]

James:  [3:15] Got it. Got it. [0:00]

Jim:  [3:16] Two big hot buttons, though. We’re talking about reducing greenhouse, you know, gases. And then we’re also talking, in my old world, utilities’ loss and unaccounted for gas. Even though you can account for it, when you blow out a pipe, you still lose it. [0:00]

Rita:  [3:29] Yep. [0:00]

Jim:  [3:29] So this way, if I’m reading this right, you capture it, do the repairs, and then you inject it back into the system? [0:00]

Rita:  [3:35] What we can do with our GoVAC Flex is you do pipe to pipe. You can do, like, take it, and capture it from one pipe and transfer it into an adjoining pipe, pipe to pipe. Or the Flex part of it, you could compress it up to 3,600 PSI, put it into a tooth trailer… [0:00]

Jim:  [3:51] Yep. [0:00] [0:00] …

Rita:  [3:52] or a storage tank. And then either take it someplace else to reinject it… [0:00]

Jim:  [3:57] Yep. [0:00] [0:00] …

Rita:  [3:57] or use it as a CNG fuel. [0:00]

Jim:  [3:59] Beautiful. [0:00]

Rita:  [4:00] A very cool thing, our first customer is actually going to be refueling at night. They’re going to use it at the Time Fill refuelings solution… [0:00]

Jim:  [4:09] Yep, yep. [0:00] [0:00] …

Rita:  [4:10] for their fleet vehicles and pipeline evacuation during the day. [0:00]

Jim:  [4:13] That makes perfect… [0:00] [[4:14] crosstalk] [0:00] [0:00] …

Jim:  [4:14] solution. [0:00] [[4:14] crosstalk] [0:00] [0:00] …

James:  [4:15] you’re talking Jim’s love… [0:00] [0:00] [

Rita:  [4:16] laughs] [0:00]

Jim:  [4:17] If everybody… [0:00]

James:  [4:17] His background is exactly… [0:00]

Jim:  [4:19] CNG, LNG, I started in that world in probably 2008 with CenterPoint Energy. [0:00]

Rita:  [4:25] OK. [0:00]

Jim:  [4:26] And I had a love affair with CNG and LNG. [0:00]

Rita:  [4:29] OK. [0:00]

Jim:  [4:29] So… [0:00]

Rita:  [4:31] You speak my language. [0:00]

Jim:  [4:32] And you’re speaking my language, too. We can probably go on for hours. I’m going to make this commitment. We’re going to have you on the show on a larger episode. [0:00]

Rita:  [4:38] OK, great. [0:00]

Jim:  [4:38] Because I think we can really… [0:00] [0:00] …

James:  [4:40] really, really lean into it. Because, really, here, today, we’re kind of talking about, we’re bringing people on, talking about AGA, right? [0:00]

Jim:  [4:48] Yep. [0:00]

Rita:  [4:48] Yeah. [0:00]

James:  [4:48] So I’d love to hear, this being your first one, because Jimmy and I have been here before… [0:00]

Jim:  [4:53] Oh, yes. [0:00] [0:00] …

James:  [4:53] a few times. [0:00]

Jim:  [4:54] Yes. [0:00]

James:  [4:54] A couple times. [0:00]

Jim:  [4:55] Yes. [0:00]

James:  [4:56] I don’t know how long we’ve been AGA members because… [0:00] [0:00] [

Rita:  [4:58] laughs] [0:00]

James:  [4:58] I haven’t been here long. I got here as soon as I could. [0:00]

Jim:  [5:01] Through my history, a long time. [0:00]

James:  [5:04] But this being your first event and being a part of this association, what, how do you feel like it’s been? And what about that, you know, the collective industry? The, these are some of the people that sit at the tables, the committees, the work groups. [0:00]

Rita:  [5:20] Yeah. [0:00]

James:  [5:20] I mean, there’s a big segment here that are making the decisions for our industry. How’s it been for you to be here? [0:00]

Rita:  [5:27] Oh. [0:00] [[5:28] crosstalk] [0:00]

Rita:  [5:28] I, yeah, no, well, last night we were up until 11:30 talking about everybody came by yesterday. [0:00]

Jim:  [5:36] Yeah. [0:00]

Rita:  [5:37] And then tonight, I know it’s going to be the exact same thing. And, and it’s just, for us has been a very overwhelming reception to what we’re doing. Obviously, it’s very exciting that we actually have the unit here in the show. [0:00]

James:  [5:51] Put your hands on it. [0:00]

Rita:  [5:53] Yeah, exactly. [0:00]

James:  [5:54] No doubt. [0:00]

Rita:  [5:54] And, you know, I, I’ve slipped into a couple of the sessions. And so then… [0:00]

James:  [6:01] We won’t tell anyone. [0:00] [[6:02] crosstalk] [0:00] [0:00] [

Rita:  [6:02] laughs] [0:00] [0:00] …

Jim:  [6:03] amongst the three of us. [0:00]

Rita:  [6:05] Yeah. [laughs] So anyway, I, there’s a lot of familiar faces because of the crossover between CNG refueling and and, and now pipeline evacuation. But for us, we’re, we’re just super stoked and excited that our timing is great. And we have a product that seems to be, be resonating with, with our customers. [0:00] [[6:28] crosstalk] [0:00]

Jim:  [6:29] Wonderful, yeah. [0:00]

James:  [6:29] That’s so good. [0:00]

Rita:  [6:31] Thank you so much for giving me this opportunity. I love, obviously I love to talk about my company. [0:00]

James:  [6:55] Nice. Well… [0:00] [0:00] [

Rita:  [6:56] laughs] [0:00]

James:  [6:56] We love to have people who love to talk about their company. [0:00] [0:00] [

Rita:  [7:01] laughs] [0:00]

Jim:  [7:01] And if we don’t cut her off now, it’ll be 11 o’clock tonight. We keep going. [0:00]

Rita:  [7:09] Exactly. [0:00]

Jim:  [7:09] It will be a full episode. [0:00]

Rita:  [7:12] Yeah. All right. [0:00]

James:  [7:13] Rita, it’s been awesome. [0:00]

Rita:  [7:15] Thank you. [0:00] [[7:16] crosstalk] [0:00]

Jim:  [7:16] Absolutely. [0:00]

James:  [7:17] Thank you so much. [0:00]

Jim:  [7:18] Thank you so much… [0:00]

Rita:  [7:20] Thank you. [0:00] [0:00] …

Jim:  [7:21] for stopping by. It’s been great. Everybody, we’re gonna go to a commercial break. We’ll be back in a few minutes. [0:00]

James:  [7:30] We have no sponsors. [0:00]

Jim:  [6:55] We have sponsors. It’s us. [0:00] [0:00] [

Rita:  [6:57] laughs] [0:00]

James:  [6:58] Thank you. [0:00]

Jim:  [6:59] Thank you. [0:00]

Rita:  [6:59] Bye. [0:00]

James:  [7:00] Thank you, Rita. [0:00]

Rita:  [7:01] Thank you. [0:00]

Jim:  [7:00] James, back again. [0:00]

James:  [7:02] We’re back again? [0:00]

Jim:  [7:03] Now, this name… [0:00]

Chris Isaacson:  [7:04] Let’s go! [0:00] [[7:05] clap] [0:00]

James:  [7:06] Whoo! Come on. [0:00]

Chris:  [7:07] Let’s go! [0:00]

Jim:  [7:08] We just, we just got… [0:00]

James:  [7:08] Bombarded by… [0:00] [0:00] …

Jim:  [7:09] bombarded, yeah. [0:00]

James:  [7:10] Chris Isaacson came in hot. [0:00]

Jim:  [7:12] Now, this company CS|NRI, Larisa, let me say that one more time, CS|NRI. [0:00]

Tim Mally:  [7:20] I’ll send you the link. [0:00]

Jim:  [7:22] Please, do that. [0:00]

James:  [7:23] Let’s get that right. [0:00]

Jim:  [7:24] Yes. [0:00]

Tim:  [7:24] Please. [0:00]

Jim:  [7:24] Mr. Tim Mally… [0:00]

Tim:  [7:27] No dash. [0:00]

Jim:  [7:28] No, there’s, Larisa, there’s no dash in there. [0:00]

James:  [7:31] Never a dash. [0:00]

Jim:  [7:32] No, trust me. [0:00]

James:  [7:32] We love you. [0:00]

Jim:  [7:33] Yes, we do. Tim Mally from CS|NRI sales… [0:00]

Tim:  [7:37] Manager. [0:00]

Jim:  [7:39] OK, sales manager. So you have something to do with selling the… [0:00]

James:  [7:44] Managers? [0:00]

Jim:  [7:45] No, no. [0:00]

Tim:  [7:45] Selling managers, yeah. [0:00]

Jim:  [7:46] I would say the… [0:00]

Tim:  [7:47] We sell a lot of managers. [0:00] [0:00] …

Jim:  [7:47] either Clock Springs or composite wraps, all that. You folks have been around for ages. Tammy Bomia has been with the company Neptune Research, from the beginning, that is now part of CS|NRI. So she’s been with y’all for 23 years. I know you’ve been, I think you were Milliken or Citadel? [0:00]

Tim:  [8:07] Citadel. [0:00]

Jim:  [8:08] Citadel. And then you kind of… [0:00]

James:  [8:08] Guys, I can’t keep up with conversation. [0:00]

Jim:  [8:12] I got it all. [0:00]

James:  [8:11] It’s a lot. [0:00]

Jim:  [8:12] I know. [0:00]

Tim:  [8:13] It’s too much. [0:00]

Jim:  [8:13] It’s OK. Listen… [0:00]

James:  [8:14] I struggle with acronyms anyway. [0:00]

Jim:  [8:16] Yeah. [0:00]

James:  [8:17] So let’s move on. [0:00]

Jim:  [8:19] Let’s move on. [0:00]

Tim:  [8:19] Sounds great. Great idea. Let’s go. [0:00]

James:  [8:22] Tim, it’s AGA week… [0:00]

Tim:  [8:24] Yep. [0:00] [0:00] …

James:  [8:24] big week. We’re all back. We’re all here. What’s it been like? [0:00]

Tim:  [8:27] It’s been awesome. I mean, you can look around… [0:00] [[8:30] crosstalk] [0:00] [0:00] …

Tim:  [8:30] the camera… [0:00] [[8:31] crosstalk] [0:00] [0:00] …

Tim:  [8:32] are around. [0:00]

Jim:  [8:32] Yeah. [0:00]

Tim:  [8:33] But it’s been hopping, you know? [0:00]

James:  [8:36] Really has. [0:00]

Tim:  [8:36] Finally got people out of their houses. They’re out from behind their Teams meeting screens, Zoom meeting screens and actually shaking hands and… [0:00]

James:  [8:45] Kissing babies. [0:00] [0:00] …

Tim:  [8:46] kissing babies. [0:00]

Jim:  [8:47] And that’s why we’re doing this, too, though, to help the folks that couldn’t come, give them a little taste of… [0:00]

James:  [8:51] Good vibe, right? [0:00]

Jim:  [8:52] Yeah. [0:00]

Tim:  [8:53] Yeah. [0:00]

Jim:  [8:53] It’s been great. [0:00]

James:  [8:54] It’s been a vibe. [0:00]

Tim:  [8:55] Look at your guys’ vibe. Definitely sending out a great vibe. [0:00]

James:  [8:57] “Miami Vice.” [0:00]

Tim:  [8:58] Miami Vice. [0:00]

Jim:  [8:58] What’d you think? You like it? [0:00]

Tim:  [9:00] I love it, yeah. I’ve been very inspired, very inspired. [0:00]

James:  [9:03] We’ve had a lot of good feedback from it. You know, when we decided to kind of go this route, I just took the approach of asking for forgiveness… [0:00] [0:00] [

Tim:  [9:13] laughs] [0:00] [0:00] …

James:  [9:15] which I did on Friday with my boss. [0:00]

Jim:  [9:19] Mr. Coleman Sterling… [0:00]

James:  [9:20] And luckily… [0:00] [0:00] …

Jim:  [9:22] CEO. [0:00]

James:  [9:21] …luckily… [0:00]

Jim:  [9:23] He loved it. [0:00] [0:00] …

James:  [9:23] he loved it. [0:00]

Tim:  [9:24] Oh nice. [0:00]

Jim:  [9:24] Absolutely. [0:00]

James:  [9:25] We got approval… [0:00]

Tim:  [9:26] Well, I mean, too bad the viewers can see, but I think the AGA show likes it, too. [0:00]

Jim:  [9:31] Oh yeah. [0:00]

James:  [9:32] I do too. I think so. [0:00]

Tim:  [9:32] I’ve seen you guys’ shirts in every booth. I’ve seen your… [0:00]

James:  [9:36] We gave away 500 shirts here. And I think we have, well, we’ve given away 497 shirts. [0:00]

Jim:  [9:43] We have three left? [0:00]

James:  [9:44] I think so. [0:00]

Jim:  [9:44] All right. [0:00]

James:  [9:45] If you haven’t got one, you better hurry. Tim, it’s great to be here. [0:00]

Tim:  [9:50] Yeah. [0:00]

James:  [9:50] We appreciate you stopping by. [0:00]

Tim:  [9:52] Thank you guys for having me. [0:00]

Jim:  [9:52] Absolutely. [0:00]

Tim:  [9:52] Appreciate it. [0:00]

James:  [9:53] Awesome. [0:00]

Jim:  [9:53] Yeah, thank you, sir. OK, we’re stepping away for… [0:00]

James:  [9:57] We’ll grab another one. [0:00]

Jim:  [9:59] Two minutes, I bet. Here we go. [0:00]

Tim:  [10:01] Let’s do it. [0:00]

Jim:  [10:02] Welcome back, everybody. Special guest with us, Buddy Powers, old friend from the industry was walking by with Tammy. They were waving frantically out there, so we pulled them in. [0:00] [10:12] Buddy, give a little introduction of yourself. [0:00]

Buddy Powers:  [10:14] Thank you, guys. I’m a big fan. I’ve watched a number of your podcasts. You know, I’m a big fan of Tammy, of course, and… [0:00]

James:  [10:20] We all are. [0:00] [0:00] ..

Buddy:  [10:20] .the crew at CS|NRI, absolutely. [0:00]

James:  [10:22] She is the high point of that couple. [0:00] [0:00] [

Buddy:  [10:25] laughs] Yeah, he’s, you know, we all married up in terms of the wives. They put up with us. But I, I’ve been coming to AGA for probably the past 20 years. I grew up in the industry at ClockSpring, you know, and, you know, watching technologies. [0:00] [10:42] And this is really a platform to develop those relationships and inform people about the technologies, why they provide value. What’s the business case? It’s a completely different market, as far as I’m concerned, in the local distribution companies versus, say, the transmissions there. [0:00]

James:  [10:56] Sure. [0:00]

Jim:  [10:57] Yeah. [0:00]

Buddy:  [10:57] It’s just a different client business case, for lack of a better term. Right now, what I’m doing this week, I work with a company called Massachusetts Materials Technologies. [0:00]

Jim:  [11:10] OK, let’s say it one more time, Massachusetts Materials Technology. And if we google that, we can find it? [0:00]

Buddy:  [11:16] Yes. Yeah. The website is, is bymmt.com. And it’s a MIT startup, right? [0:00]

James:  [11:21] Oh, wow. [0:00]

Buddy:  [11:22] And so they have a lot of startups up there that are funded by venture capitalists, you know, and they basically are taking these ideas and trying to make them a field‑ready model, right? [0:00] [11:35] So we’re in the process. We have, and we’re pretty far along in this in terms of OQs, which I know you guys are getting involved with, and it’s critical, right? You want transparency. You want consistency with the records. We’re collecting data from the field? [0:00] [11:48] And what it does is it’s a, it’s a piece of equipment that brings out lab‑quality data. So for material property, so like tensile strength, ultimate tensile, toughness values. Those are all used for engineering critical assessments. This is what is being driven by the new reps, right? [0:00]

James:  [12:07] Man, I just kind of geeked out a little bit. You start talking about data, you know… [0:00]

Jim:  [12:12] Yeah, tensile strength. I bring up tensile strength all the time at home. And Tammy looks at me, she goes, “You don’t understand tensile strength, so don’t even start.” [0:00] [[12:19] laughter] [0:00]

Jim:  [12:20] So she’s like, “I’m an A certified inspector, so.” I’m like, “Ooh, whoa, whoa.” [0:00]

James:  [12:26] Well, Buddy… [0:00]

Jim:  [12:27] Where’s your booth at? Tell, let everybody know, where’s your booth at here? [0:00]

Buddy:  [12:30] 1209 We’re at, yeah. We’ve got the actual new 8000 series, so the new prototype that’s been developed. This has been five years in the making… [0:00]

James:  [12:40] Wow. [0:00] [0:00] …

Buddy:  [12:40] a lot of lessons learned. [0:00]

James:  [12:41] A lot of money. [0:00]

Buddy:  [12:42] We had a skills training program that we brought up through it, AS&T standard for, and then we’re trying to go the next steps to the OQ, right? We have a covered task… [0:00]

James:  [12:52] That’s good. [0:00]

Buddy:  [12:53] How do we get through that. And we just need to… [0:00]

James:  [12:57] We know a guy. We know a guy that’s… [0:00]

Jim:  [13:01] We know a guy. Well, I know a guy. [0:00]

James:  [13:05] I don’t know a, I mean, I know… [0:00]

Buddy:  [13:01] I’ve heard of a guy. [0:00]

Jim:  [13:02] Well, we’ll find a guy. [0:00] [0:00] [

Jim:  [13:12] Scale of 1 to 10, what would you put it at? [0:00]

James:  [13:16] I know these are always that two years apart. But this one, these two years are different. [0:00]

Buddy:  [13:17] Yeah. [0:00]

James:  [13:17] How has it been? [0:00]

Buddy:  [13:18] Yeah, it’s been an 11. I mean, everything now is benchmarked off of COVID, right? [0:00]

Jim:  [13:23] Yeah. [0:00]

Buddy:  [13:23] You know, before COVID, and, and for me, you know, that benchmark is when they shut down the rodeo in Houston, Texas. You know… [0:00]

Jim:  [13:30] Yeah. [0:00]

Buddy:  [13:31] It’s a big deal. And so that’s when you… [0:00]

Jim:  [13:38] Yeah. Oh, yeah. [0:00]

Buddy:  [13:39] That’s when you knew it was real. Like, you’re saying, “OK, COVID?” because we didn’t really take it seriously going into February. We’re like, “It’s just a pass, it’s just another swine flu.” And sure enough, we just, they closed the rodeo, and then everybody started shutting down. [0:00] [13:54] And so it’s been great getting back to seeing people. I mean, guys like us, we want to connect. We want to be in front of people. In person, you can’t replace it. It’s that way at schools… [0:00]

James:  [14:04] We tried. [0:00] [0:00] [

James:  [14:15] Right. [0:00]

Jim:  [14:15] I’d look for the audience. I’m like… [0:00]

James:  [14:17] I’ve never felt more like Jim Schauer. [0:00] [[14:17] laughter] [0:00]

James:  [15:08] I told my wife, she’s like, “How’s it going?” I was like, “Man, it’s the best event ever.” [0:00] [0:00] [

Buddy:  [15:13] laughs] [0:00]

Jim:  [15:13] Buddy, are we good? [0:00]
